🪥 Smart Toothbrushing Timer – Raspberry Pi Pico, OLED & RGB LEDs

Make toothbrushing more fun with this DIY electronic toothbrushing timer, powered by a Raspberry Pi Pico!

I designed this project to help children develop better brushing habits through colorful LED animations, a countdown display, and an interactive experience.

Instead of a simple timer, this little device turns brushing your teeth into a fun daily challenge! 😁

✨ Features

  • ⏱ 3 Timer Modes: Choose between 1, 2, or 3 minutes.

  • 🌈 12 RGB LEDs: A WS2812 LED ring with rotating, color-changing animations during the countdown.

  • 🖥 OLED Display: A 128×32 screen showing the timer information.

  • 🔘 4 Physical Buttons: Three buttons to select the brushing duration and one to reset the timer.

  • 🎉 Fun Completion Animation: The LEDs flash green for 5 seconds when the timer finishes.

  • 🏆 Encouraging Messages: The OLED displays "C'est fini !" (Finished!) and "Bravo!" (Well done!) for 10 seconds.

  • 🔄 Automatic Reset: The timer automatically returns to its ready state, with the LEDs switched off.

🔧 Electronic Components

🎮 How It Works

1. Choose Your Brushing Time

Press one of the three buttons:

  • 🟢 1 minute – Quick brushing

  • 🔵 2 minutes – Recommended brushing duration

  • 🟣 3 minutes – Extended brushing

2. Start Brushing! 🪥

The countdown begins on the OLED screen.

During the countdown, the 12 RGB LEDs rotate and change colors, creating a fun visual animation.

3. Time's Up! 🎉

When the countdown reaches zero:

  • The LED ring flashes green for 5 seconds.

  • The OLED displays "C'est fini !" and "Bravo!" for 10 seconds.

  • The timer automatically resets to the ready screen.

4. Reset Anytime

The dedicated reset button allows you to stop the countdown and return to the ready state immediately.

💻 Software

The project is programmed in MicroPython for the Raspberry Pi Pico.

The code manages the OLED display, LED animations, button inputs, countdown and automatic reset.
