Decrypto Screen – printed replacement

A sturdy replacement for the cardboard screen of Decrypto. Four pockets take the 44 × 65 mm keyword cards; a window over each pocket shows one keyword at a time, like the original. The retro front is printed in three colours in one job. Two versions available: one with an empty window and one with a window filled with 0.4 mm layer, allowing you to print the red film using red transparent filament.

Features

  • Four 45 mm card pockets with an entry funnel, thumb notches at the back and a 2 mm card overhang for easy pulling

  • 40 × 25 mm windows; reuse the red films from the original screen (max 44 × 31 mm each, glued behind the window) or print built-in panes in translucent red PETG (variant file)

  • Front and back plates slide together on 13 dovetails and click shut with snap ridges – no glue

  • Edge seals along every pocket keep the cards from slipping between the plates

  • Click-on feet with an 8° backward lean

  • Raised graphics (0.4 mm) and numbers (0.8 mm) for a two-colour front; each digit has its own switch pattern (binary 1–4)

  • All parts print flat without supports; size 223 × 90 mm

Parts

  • Front plate ×1 (two variants: with empty window and window pane)

  • Back plate ×1

  • Foot ×2

  • Red films from the original game (optional, alternatively use a front plate with a 0.4 mm window pane layer)

Variants

Standard version (glue the red films from the original game behind the windows)

  • decrypto_screen_front.3mf – front plate, ready to print. Open it with File → Open project so the two colour changes (graphics at 2.6 mm, numbers at 3.0 mm) are kept. Print 1.

  • decrypto_screen_front.stl – the same front plate as a plain model, without colour changes. Print 1.

Variant: built-in red window panes (no films needed)

  • decrypto_screen_front_pane.3mf – front plate with 0.4 mm panes printed in translucent red, then three colour changes: to the plate colour at 0.6 mm, then graphics and numbers. Open it with File → Open project. Print 1 instead of the standard front plate.

  • decrypto_screen_front_pane.stl – the same variant as a plain model, without colour changes. Print 1.

Back and feet

  • decrypto_screen_back.3mf – back plate and both feet, laid out on one bed. Print 1 set.

  • decrypto_screen_back.stl – back plate only. Print 1.

  • decrypto_screen_foot.stl – click-on foot. Print 2.

Fit test

  • decrypto_screen_fit_test.stl – one pocket (back and front) for checking the dovetails, edge seals, snap and card fit. Print it first.

Printing

Prusa Core One, PETG, 0.20 mm STRUCTURAL profile, 3 perimeters, 15 % infill, no supports, no brim. Open decrypto_screen_front.3mf as a project: colour changes at 2.6 mm (graphics) and 3.0 mm (numbers). About 125 g of PETG and 2.5–3.5 hours in total.

Fit check

Print decrypto_screen_fit_test.stl first: one pocket with its dovetails, seals and snap. Adjust the clearances if needed (see customization).

Assembly

  1. Option 1: Glue a red film behind each window in the front panel. Option 2: use the built-in panes version printed with translucent red PETG (variant file)

  2. Slide the front plate down onto the back plate until it clicks.

  3. Click the feet onto the bottom edge.

  4. Insert the cards: the upper word shows in the window.

Designed and test-printed on a Prusa Core One in PETG.
