The Technics SL-J110R has a flawed hinge design where the spring is too strong and cracks the plastic. As these record players are pushing 30 years old, there are no new hinge available, and most of them seem to have broken.

Taking measurements from an original hinge, I created this model based on the original. You transfer the “U” shaped metal piece, and the spring from your original broken hinge into this, and it will function just like the original keeping the lid upright! If you still have the original metal hinge pin then it too should slide straight in.

In my case I was missing the original pin, so I used a small bamboo skewer from the kitchen.

Notes:

I've only printed this part in PLA, and due to the strength of the spring it too fails like the original hinges… For me it seems to last about 4-6 months before failing, but at a print time of around 16 minutes, and cost of €0.05 I'll happily print a few at a time to swap out!

I don't believe the top part of the hinge is prone to failing, but I have three of these record players and one I received was missing the top parts so I modelled and printed them too. The curve and flat spot the interacts with the “U” shaped piece of metal and spring aren't perfect, but they're close enough and do the job keeping the lid open.
