Nice and durable toy car. It drives well and keeps a straight direction thanks to the bearings.

Design

Woody was designed with the goal to create a robust and durable toy car capable of smooth and straight driving. The body, shafts, and wheels were modeled from scratch by myself. For bearings, I chose a reliable design by Matvey Kukuy.

Let's see how it rides.

Material

Body

Recommended: Wood-filled PLA

Alternatives: any reasonable filament but not Woody anymore

Used filament: Fiberlogy FiberWOOD brown

Shafts and Bearings

Recommended: PLA

Alternatives: PC (polycarbonate), PETG, or other harder engineering materials or composites

Used filament: Prusament Premium PLA Mystic Green

Wheels

Recommended: TPU (flex)

Alternatives: any reasonable filament but probably with worse adhesion and noisier

Used filament: FIBERFLEX 30D

Print recommendations

Body

Perimeters: 3

Minimum shell thickness: 1 mm (both Top and Bottom)

Shaft

Perimeters: 3

Brim: 5 mm

Bearing

Check the original model instructions.

Print each of them separately.

Perimeters: 3

Infill: 90%

Complete individual object: on (in case you print more at once)

Wheel

If you print from flex you know how tricky is.

Print each of them separately.

Perimeters: 3

Minimum shell thickness: 1 mm (both Top and Bottom)

Complete individual object: on (in case you print more at once)

Assembly

Print 1x Body, 2x Shaft, 4x Bearing, and 4x Wheel. All parts need about 7 hours of printing. The components fit together without the need for gluing. Assembly according to the picture:

Tolerances are set for a fair-adjusted printer.

  • If the shafts don't fit into the bearings and/or wheels, slightly (1-3%) scale down the shaft.
  • If the bearings don't fit into the body, slightly (1-3%) scale up the body.

Do not forget to lubricate the bearings. Prusa lubricant worked great for me.

I would love to see your creations.
