The standard stock spool holder use a very small diameter. This makes the filament spool move and shake too much. By having a larger diameter for the spool holder, the spool will rotate more evenly and reduce the risk of under extrusion. The holder uses that same locking mechanism as the original.

Note that all spools might not fit on this spool holder. The spool has to have a hole size of 52mm or larger in diameter.

Print instructions

The model is easy to print and various printer settings and materials can be used. The settings I used:

  • PLA
  • Layer height: 0.2mm with 0.4mm nozzle
  • Infill: 15%, cubic

The model is designed to be printed with almost no support. The only section needing support is the locking mechanism. This can be added by using the feature “paint on support” in Prusaslicer, see image.

It is also a good idea to have a smaller layer height for the locking mechanism. This can be done by using “height range modifier” in Prusaslicer.

I have attached a sliced Gcode using the print settings mentioned above.
