Description:
The death star as hovering model for your desk. Through magnets with repulsive polarity, the death star is hovering above the stand.
The diameter of the Sphere is about 100m.
Printing settings:
Please note that the modell need to be printed in 1:1 scale to fit the single and purchased parts. I considered space for the holes to have a loose fit of the magnets in the holes.
Print the spheres with the flat side down.
Both, the stand and the sphere dont need much support inside. For minimal weight use a maximum infill of 40%.
Weight adjustment will be fixed with additional parts.
Printing list:
- 1x Stand
- 1x Sphere_01
- 1x Sphere_02
- 6x Bolt
Additional parts needed:
- 6x Magnets Ø4mm
- (4x M8 Nuts ISO 4032)
- Glue
Mounting:
After printing all parts you have to install the first 3 Magnets in the base via glue.
Stand
Glue 3 Bolt into the holes of the flat side in one sphere.
Sphere
Put the other 3 Magnets into the holes wich are located in the rectangular recess. (1 in the first sphere and 2 in the other sphere). Do not glue the magnets at this time!
Be sure to install the magnets in a direction, that they will push off from the already installed magnets in the base!
Push the last 3 Bolts into the same holes, you put the magnets in.
Put together the 2 half-sphere. Do not glue the spheres at this time!
Put the whole sphere onto the stand and look, if the sphere is hovering in a nice hight.
If yes, seperate the spheres and glue the bolts for the magnets in place
After this, glue together the both halfs by adding glue into the holes for the connection bolts.
If not, open the sphere and add the weight nuts (start with one) in the hexagonal shaped recess on the bottom of the bigger recess.
Repeat this process until the sphere is hovering in the perfect height.
After leveling the sphere, glue the nuts in place.
After this, glue together the both halfs by adding glue into the holes for the connection bolts.
