I wanted to create a filament storage space in a metro (wire shelf) rack, with minimal materials. This metro rack is from Costco, and has wires running from front to back that I measure as 3.67mm thick, with a 16.2mm gap between wires. Make sure yours are the same, or adapt the width and spacing of the gaps.

Using four of these, I can support two ends of two ¾" dowels, running in parallel for 24", which filament rolls can sit on - without falling into the wire rack.

I printed mine in PETG, to be a bit less brittle but I'm sure this would work in PLA as well. When assembling, slide the dowels in from the end - even using PETG, you're likely to break the print if you force the dowel in from the top.

I printed these open-face downwards, with no support material. In PETG it resulted in a bit of stringing inside - but that area will be hidden by the dowel and loose strings are easily scraped out with any convenient tool so the dowel insertion isn't obstructed.
