Inspired by a commercial option I found, I created these gears. The gears can be slipped onto a suction cup. The ones I've had lying around have a head with a 15 mm diameter and the head is 4 mm thick (sourced from com-four).

Print settings

I had good results with the following settings

  • 0.4 mm nozzle (I'd advice against going bigger, because of the tolerances)
  • 0.2 mm layer height
  • 4 perimeters with Gyroid infill (20% or more)
  • no support needed

There is also a model for the used bearings only, which you can use to check if your printer has no problems with the them. Or you can use them for remixing :)

Tips
  • First layer should be spotless
  • Random z-seam placement could avoid/lessen binding of the bearing rolls to the gear

Post processing

You most likely will have to break free the bearing rolls. Try to free them by wiggling them one after another, it really shouldn't take a lot of force. If that doesn't free them, you could try prying them free with pliers.

Although the gears hold the suction cup tightly, it will most likely come loose when you try to pop of the suction cup from a surface. I'm okay with that, since I can easily put it back. If you like to avoid it, you could use hot glue to put the two together.

Don't be alarmed if the bearing rollers tilt inside of the bearings, they won't come out though.
