GridSystem is a modular platform to create computer cases of various sizes (including ITX, mATX and ATX). The platform offer great flexibility and is designed with future expansions in mind. It is the second iteration of my GridCase project.

The Basics

The GridSystem consists of three base components which exists in various flavors.

Plates are the main building blocks and represent a 168mm x 168mm frame with various content. Different plates serves as or motherboards inserts, fan outlets or even regular walls. To accommodate for different design needs; some plates also exists in half and quarter variations.

Plates are joined together with plugs. Plugs are tiny components which are keyed so they create a solid bond between plates. Some taps with a rubber mallet and the plates will be inseparable. In addition to the regular plug, some use cases might need the magnetic plug. Magnetic plugs can be used in various combinations, examples include case doors or detachable plates.

Corners are special pieces with multiple plugs. Plugs exists in full and half lengths with and without the corner piece.. Case doors would typically use the magnetic variant.

The GridSystem is designed to be easily put together with as little tools as possible. You will get a very long way with a rubber mallet (I use my trusted IKEA hammer from the TRIXIG kit with it's rubber dampener) to secure plugs, super glue to attach magnets and a soldering iron for the threaded inserts.

Parts List

Find your favorite filament in your favorite color. Most parts have been tested with successful prints in PLA, PETG and ASA. Be aware that PLA might be unsuitable for certain case designs that lack sufficient cooling due to it's low glass temperature.

In addition to your favorite filament, the following non-printable parts are required for a decent build experience

  • Round Neodymium Magnets, 6x3mm (for case door/detachable panels)
  • Threaded Insert, M3x5x4 (for motherboard and expansion cards)
  • Super Glue (to attach magnets)

The Builds

Standard print quality of 0.2mm works fine. It is recommended to increase wall loops to 3. Brim is optional and parts are generally designed to be printed without supports

All test prints have been made with the default 15% infill.

The different folders contains parts necessary to build different case designs. Build instructions will follow later.

Important! Remember to asseble the 3mf files in the slicer, otherwise some slicers like OrcaSlicer, produces gaps between parts that are intended to be connected.

mATX and ATX Compact Version

This version supports SFX PSU and expose 3 slots expansion cards at the back.
