9/10/26: Ploutone no longer makes the headless bridges used in the original models. There may be remixes for alternate part compatibility!

Welcome to OpenBass! This is my first DIY guitar project. There are many 3D printed guitar projects online, but not many 3D printed basses with fully 3D printed guitar necks. I saw this as an opportunity to push myself as a designer and see what the limitations were with this kind of project. This was a great hands-on experience with design intent and parametrically driven models.

Like many of my projects, I wanted a headless, multiscale, 4-string bass and building one was a great way to customize it to my exact specifications. Building a guitar from scratch is also a great way to learn about why guitars are built the way they are and how to do your own guitar setup. The end result was a lot of learning and a fully playable bass that looks and sounds great.

I used Matte PLA to keep it minimal, but the model lends itself to use all sorts of fun filament colors for the body. Includes 3D printed fret press and 3D printed fret bender!

8/9/25: Added Pickup_Placement_Ratio parameter for angled pickups, suggested by u/Poulito on r/Luthier

10/10/25: There was a mistake with the V2.1 neck models that made the fret slots too shallow close to the body. This has been updated in the model, but if you downloaded before today you can deepen the fretslots with a hacksaw! If the frets end up a bit loose due to the widened slot, you can add superglue to ensure it seats permanently.
