This is the extension for the modular Case

for the NFC/RFID scanner SpoolSense.org for managing my spools and DryBoxes. This extension adds a TFT display and a keypad.

This enclosure is part of the SpoolSense ecosystem – an open-source project for tracking filament spools using NFC.

Features

  • modular

  • easy printing

  • works on smaller printers

  • nicer surface through printing upside down and bolting together ... selftapping

  • minimized support needed reducing time and wasted material

  • colored design - be sure to check the right color for the heads

  • the Logos (RFID and SpoolSense are transluzent, so the LEDs use for showing the status

    • SpoolSense shows status AND filamentcolor wth the embedded RGB-LED

      • ESP32DevKitC

      • ESP32-S3-Zero

  • screwing together with normal M3 Allen screws selftapping

  • backpart is interchangeable for future changes (keypad, LCD, TFT, Buttons ...) so the front part can stay "as is" with the NFCReader and the ESP32

  • powerconnection in the front

  • interchangeable mounting plate for different ESPs and NFC Boards

  • there is an upcoming Extension for the use of an LCD and

  • an external RGBLED

  • the keypad is supported from the cover

Hardware

How to assemble

  • print out the needed parts

    • change the setting of the colors

    • if you dont want colors, use your preferred instead

    • one color is transparent - so the LED of the ESP and the NFC board are brighter

  • connect the case with the extension with 2 M3x20. If possible clamp the parts on a flat surface. The screws are screwed in an angle for easier access - but with the risk, that they shift a little bit on tightening

  • solder the pinheaders pointing inwards!

  • If something wiggles ... use hotglue ;-)

  • I fixed the display and the keypad with the soldering iron melting the little pins

  • RGBLed is ficed with hotglue

  • cables also fixed with hotglue to take out the tension

  • wire it correctliy and test it

  • close the case ...

  • ... enjoy
