My own design for a simple, easy to make, easy to print. Minimalist design for light weight and low filament usage.

This is the 5th iteration of a rocket design. I wanted a small fully printed rocket to launch for the 4th of July. I designed it in tinkercad and it is designed for 18mm x 70mm Estes rocket motors. Prints in 4 parts. Its super simple to assemble and a great place for a child to get interested in STEM. Designed with Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troops in mind. They can learn about 3D printing and physics at the same time!

On an Ender K2SE, I was able to print:

12 Rocket Bodies on one tray in 7ish hours

12 Nose Cones on one tray in 7ish hours

4 Rocket Base and retaining caps in 8ish hours

Print Settings:

I used 4 walls and 30% infill for the body and the base (infill only applies to the ring to retain the motor in position). Print the nosecone at 0% infill to save weight and filament. Printed with tree/organic supports. Print all objects in the same orientation that they would be once assembled (straight up as they are in the file).

Assembly:

1- Use an elastic string (8" or so) or rubber band to tie onto the loop in the rocket body and loop on the nosecone.

2- Super glue the rocket body to the rocket base. Attach with the loop on the top (furthest away from the rocket base connection).

3- Create a streamer using flagging tape (super cheap and bright colors). Cut a 12" - 16" length and tie streamer about 2 inches from the nosecone.

4- On the nosecone, it is purposefully on the small side and loose in the rocket body. I figured, better than sanding, using a few strips of masking tape or painters tape to make the fit slightly tighter.

5- Pack the rocket body from the top with 3 pieces of wadding and roll the streamer. Pack it in the rocket body and place the nosecone into the rocket body.

6- Use any 18mm rocket motor (Tested with both A and B Motors). Insert the motor and then use the retention cap and close with a quarter turn.
