5in Speed Square With Corner Removed

  • Used a Swanson speed square and “Replicated” it in tinker cad with a few modifications and designed this.

  • Made this speed square for being able to quickly figure out if somthing is square when a weld or other object is in the way of the corner of the square.

How I use them

  • Use these mainly in metal fabrication applications, and some occasional wood working

  • Building pipe fence I mostly use the other 7" version of this thats on my page as its a little bigger

  • I have printed several of these, they are great to have around and cheap to make one for this truck, one for that truck, one for the garage, one for the house, ect.

  • I would be lying if I said I had never broken one, but have broken very few and they have survived more than I ever imagined. As long as you don't place them against a hot surface from welding for more than a few seconds they do just fine.

Infill / Material Used

  • PETG is what the squares in the photos are printed out of. Have used PLA and it worked well especially for an application where its not being used everyday.

  • PETG works better for everyday use and being out in the elements (At least that has been my experience) What works for my application may not be the best suited for yours, use your own judgment.

  • Printed these with 50% infill, used the “Gyroid” infill. (Did both of these things for rigidity and toughness.

  • Made it slightly more robust than a generic off the shelf metal square for added rigidity

Printing on your printer - What you need to know.

  • This object requires no support ( The one in the pictures was printed without any support)

  • In your slicer if it is suggesting / wanting support use your best judgement for your printer.

  • You can also either disable supports or set the “Threshold angle” to 5 degrees and that will solve it.
