I've got fed up with pressing UNLOAD_FILAMENT macro on my PC and running through the whole room to my printer, so I've dug up my old Honor 8 smartphone and decided to use is as a printer display.
After initial testing I've created this here case and mount. My main goals was to have it look somewhat nice, make it detachable so I can hold it in my hand when doing calibration and obserwing print, and have phone not slip from my hands.
Print it as you want, I did it in 0.2 layer with PLA and it came up nice.
Front plate is attached to back plate with 4 M3 screws, just screw them nice and easy into the plastic, no need for threaded inserts.
Holder consists of 2 parts - one attached to the enclosure, and second one fits 2020 (and simillar) extrusions. It came up somewheat loose, but YMMV depending on your print tolerances.
Base plate of enclosure is filled with closed holes meant for countersunk M3 screw. This grid is designed so you can offset the mount or change it's orientation, as I was not sure execly where I will put this on my printer at the time of designing. The grid is 38mmx19mm.
All of this was designed in OnShape, it's my first design in this tool, I think i like it. Here, grab the link: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/5e739dfea4650306fd2fb501/w/44431b6ac3b4346073af2878/e/e074334e22692ddbb6c4c7b1?renderMode=0&uiState=643d56d48d08547c5c252bc0
Hardware Needed
- M3x8mm (M3x10mm will probably fit too) - 4 pcs - for attaching front panel to the back panel
- M3x8mm countersunk with M3 nuts - 4 pcs - for attaching “Fixing Slide” to enclosure
- M5x8mm and t-nuts - for attaching “Slide Holder” to extrusion
Using Android smartphone as a printer display with Klipper
To use any smartphone with Klipper, I've basically researched two options
- running a browser on the phone and connecting to UI (Octoprint, Fluidd, etc…)
- using KlipperScreen
First option seemed so easy and mundane, I went with the second one. KlipperScreen homepage has a great documentation, but I've basically:
- Installed KlipperScreen on my PI using KIAUH
- Installed XServer XSDL on my Android device
- Configured start script for KlipperScreen
- Connected device
- ???
- Profit!!!
