This prevents the spool from blocking access to the fan severely limiting airflow to the RPI.

  • use 4x more m3x5x4 heatset inserts, and on the backplate where you've already inserted 4 heatsets, flip it around and insert 4x more. Two heatsets should fit perfectly in these holes (as designed)
  • Install the fanshroud from the outside using (4x) m3x6 screws.
  • YOU MAY REMOVE THE INNER FAN SHROUD

This was designed by me in F360 using the CAD for the Voron v0.1. I currently have this installed on my V0.1 (with some v0.2 upgrades, including skirts) I wasn't going to upload this, but I figured if one person can benefit from this, then hell yeah.

I was tired of having the access the electronics somewhat frequently for changes, and decided magnets was the way to go. The screws and m3 nuts constantly falling left me always frustrated to realign. I left the top two screw holes for the brass heat-set inserts still available for the extra security, if needed. (and I haven't sorted out a solution that uses magnets and the original motor mounts yet.)

This project requires the following:

  1. 6x3 Neodymium magnets [x12]
  2. m3x5x4 Brass heat-set inserts [x8] (Voron Spec)
  3. 40x10 fans [x2] (designed around Noctua NF-A4x10)
  4. m3x20 OR m3x16 bhcs [x8] (for fans and shroud)
  5. zipties [small, Voron spec]
  6. m3x6 bhcs [x4] (mounting magnet holders)
  7. A large print volume. At least a 300x300 build plate.

Notes:

  • The magnet holders reuse the m3 nuts that should have been preloaded in the rear extrusions. (if not, you must insert 3x m3 nuts on the back right extrusion, and 2x on the back left extrusion [if looking from front to back orientation])
  • Aligning the magnet holders to the back plate can take some time and patience. Best to lay the printer front down for this process.
  • Inserting magnets may require some force, or extra tools. I was able to press-fit mine in by hand, and they've held tight since.
  • Use superglue to keep magnets in place
  • The back fans face the Raspberry Pi and the MCU. They are optional but I only designed a model that includes the cutouts for fans.
  • The model includes mounting spots for voron spec'd small zip-ties. These are intended to zip-tie down the fan wires, and the reverse-bowden tube to keep it from flapping around the electronics compartment.
  • The model has cutouts on either side for spool management. It allows access to both extrusions.
  • The fan shrouds can mount from either side, but are intended to mount on the inside. So from inside out: Fans > Shroud > Backplate. If mounting from the outside, extra hardware and steps may be required.
  • Compatable with V0.1 skirts and V0.2 skirts.
  • Compatable with v0.1 Tophat
  • untested with v0.2 tophat w/ extrusions.
