Note that this is for skewed chisels (as used by woodworkers for cleaning out dovetail sockets etc), not skew chisels (as used by woodturners).  Skewed chisels (like these ones) have a single bevel at a steep angle and make it much easier to get into the sides of dovetail sockets than straight chisels do.

The jig is designed to be mounted onto the Tormek's universal support bar and allows sharpening at steep but consistent angles, which can be difficult to achieve with the jigs that Tormek supply.

All parts were printed out of PETG on the 0.2 mm QUALITY setting (which I use as standard).  They'd probably be fine with other settings.  No supports are needed.

There are two versions of the mount (which is also used in my router plane blade sharpening jig): the TormekCommonMount has a 12.3 mm diameter through hole that should slide smoothly on the 12 mm diameter universal support mount.  If you find that too loose, you can try the TormekCommonMountTight, which has a 12 mm diameter through hole.  Depending on your printer's accuracy, that might need opening out a bit with a drill bit or reamer, so it's worth printing with several perimeters to give you room for adjustment.

Hardware needed:

  • M5 heat-set threaded inserts (8): one in the “common mount”, four in the base and three in the top.
  • M5 cap screws (4) to hold the top to the base: anywhere from 10 mm to 25 mm long will be fine
  • M5 cap screw or knurled M5 screw to hold the cutter in place - length depends on the size of your cutter.
