This is a very simple to make sharpening table, which allows near 100% repeatibility and keeps the table right next to the wheel at all angles due to the rotation pivot being so close to it.
Printing
Nothing interesting here. I used PLA-CF, and it's more than durable enough. I think even normal PLA would work with enough infill.
Assembly
There are 2 legs and a table. You will need 4x screws (or another piece of metal ideally) 6mm diameter. 2 of them connect the platform and the legs on top. No need for nuts. And also several screws to connect the legs to the table or whatever it is supposed to stand on. You may need to make it higher depending on the grinder you are using, I made it for the Drechselmeister I have here, which is awesome btw.
- Use the 2 screws to connect the table and the legs, so you can figure out where to place it exactly. There are no nuts (at least I don't have any), but it still holds well.
- Screw the legs to whatever it is sitting on.
- Done, now to the angles… ;)
Sharpening angles
Providing predefined set of angles would be problematic since there are differently sized wheels, different heights etc…
So instead there are 3 holes in the legs and most likely you will need just the bottom one, I wasn't sure, so I made 3 :). So:
- Put your chisel on the table and rotate the table, so that the angle is just right on the grinding wheel.
- Clamp the table to one leg to keep it from rotating.
- Use a 6mm drill to drill a hole into the table “semi circle” by drilling through one of the leg holes. Put a 6mm screw in there, it will hold the table at this angle.
- Remove the clamp and drill a hole on the other side, and you guessed it, put another screw in there.
- Mark it with a pencil on the side for example.
Next time, just find the hole and the angle will be exactly the same as last time.
Enjoy ;)
