I had a very common problem yet a very specific need. I converted my manual rolling shutters into electric ones using Avosdim solar conversion kit, but my installation was too tight and the rolling shutter blades would misalign themselves and grind over the mounting bracket and screws.

I first tried to 3d print blade caps and glue them to the end of each blades. It would help have the blades aligned but eventually it would be my caps that would get grinded :(

So I decided to completely recreate my blind casing and mounting brackets, including the whole rolling shutter motor and axle to find a way to guide the blades while protecting the mounting screws. I got inspired by one of the official Avosdim's guide, but needed one that fits my setup.

This is how I solved this common problem (misaligned blades) with a very specific solution “sur mesure”.

I guess very little amount of people will have the exact same rolling shutter case as mine and even less have made the choice of converting them with an Avosdim solar kit, but here we are, I'm uploading this more as a showcase that 3D printing can help us resolve some of the problems we have around us.

Here is how it works:

There are two guides/guards. The one protecting the motor mount is static. It is mounted to the frame with 2x M5 screws that fit perfectly in my case. To install it, first insert it, then rotate it around the axle to have the mouth facing you, then clip it inside the mounting teeth, then screw it to the frame.

As for the other guide/guard, it rotates with the axle allowing smooth guidance. To install it, first retract the axle lock then insert it in, then relock the axle.

The whole system is designed to be installed without removing the blades from the rolling shutter casing. In the photos, the blades were removed simply because I needed to remove the old caps first :D

Hope you enjoyed reading my journey :)
