What is this?

A fully parametric eyepiece cover for microscopes that protects the eyepieces from dust and debris when not in use. The design features customizable text engraving on the front (left and right sides), allowing you to personalize your microscope or add identification labels. Originally designed for standard binocular microscopes with standardized 30mm eyepiece od with rubber eye guard, but the design can be easily customized in Autodesk Fusion 360 to fit virtually any microscope by simply adjusting a few parameters (see below).

Instructions

  1. Open the .f3d file in Fusion 360
  2. Click "Modify" → "Change Parameters" in the toolbar

For a different microscope:

  • Measure your eyepiece outer diameter and modify eyepiece_od
  • Measure the distance between eyepiece centers and adjust interpupillary_dist
  • Adjust clearance if the fit is too tight or too loose (current value set for resin 3d prints)

For custom text:

  • Modify lx_text for the left eyepiece text
  • Modify rx_text for the right eyepiece text
  • Leave blank for no text

For different sizing:

  • Adjust cover_height to make the cover taller or shorter
  • Modify wall_thickness for stronger or lighter construction
  • Change bridge_thickness to adjust rigidity of the connecting bridge
