Alternative OpenAstroExplorer EQ5 adapter for tripods with high AZ keys requiring the alu adapter and with shorter central rods that do not fully engage the standard adapter nut placement.
I bought a Skywatcher Stainless Steel EQ5 tripod from First Light Optics for my OpenAstroExplorer build and it looks like there are two very similar versions of this tripod available on their site. One with a lower AZ key and 3/8" threaded central rod (£129), another one with a higher AZ key and a shorter possibly metric central rod (£136). This adapter is for the more expensive (£136) EQ5 tripod with the higher AZ key and shorter possibly metric central rod. (FLO prices as of 12th Jan 2026)
