I needed some child-safe-ish magnets, so I desinged 9 different shapes, in which you can insert a magnet during printing, so the magnet is encapsulated in the print with no way of getting out.

Dimensions

Magnets needed: Round 8 mm diameter, 2 mm height, one magnet for each shape

Shapes: Every shape is 40 mm wide. I'm afraid that the bubble and cloud shape could be a choking hazard or swallowing hazard for children under 3 years old, the rest of the shapes seem safe to me, but be careful.

Print info and settings

Use any filament you like, I prefer PLA. In slicer add a print pause right between the last layer with magnet hole and the first layer going over the hole. Insert the magnet in the hole when the printer pauses - it fits nicely. It's very satisfying 😊 Magnetic sheet will catch it, don't worry 😊

If you want to use different size of magnet, choose models without holes and create one yourself:

  • For 8x2 magnet I used round hole with 8.2 mm diameter and 2.1 mm height. I put the holes 1 mm above the base of the shape.

  • So for example for 6x2 magnet I would try 6.2 mm x 2.1 mm hole.

  • If you want to use a magnet with different height, I would also consider to change height of the shape, so the final magnet is strong enough or has enough plastic material above and below the magnet.

Let me know how your magnets went and happy printing!
