This is the wind tunnel I made to test different airfoils.

Materials:

  • A 3d printer

  • Filament

  • 40x40cm of 30 mesh ( squish between the hollow 40x40cm square spacer and contraction cone)

  • 4 120mm fans

  • A fan speed controller

  • sheet of acrylic for viewing section

  • fog machine

  • hot glue gun for connecting everything together

I did not pre slice anything because my printer is pretty large and many things I printed on my printer would probably not fit on the majority of printers.

For the smoke, I used a fog machine and a long metal pipe directed at the middle of the honeycomb. I recommend getting a fog machine that has variable fog settings since mine did not and there was only a slim few second window where the smoke was just the right amount to get a clear shot.
