Herewith I want to present my design for a smart pixel display. The display is using a 8x32 WS2812b pixel matrix, driven by a Wemos D1 Mini and using a LD-GL5516 for light measuring.

I'm using the display in combination with PixelIt Software, with this I'm cable to connect the display to my Home Assistant and be able to send notifications with Node-Red.

To control the display, there are multiple open source projects available which can be used:

Hardware I've used:

Additional hardware you need:

  • 4 x 3x30mm dowel pin to connect the frame parts together
  • 24 x M3x8mm Hexagon head screws
  • Single stranded wires for internal connections
  • USB Power supply with 5VDC / 2A and Micro USB cable
  • 2.5mm milky plexiglass pane (Pixel_Separator_Cover can be used as tracing template)
  • Hot glue gun for cable and GL5516 fixation
