This model is a bidirectional cable chain based upon the igus Triflex series energy chain. These are used to wire up rotational systems where the cable cannot be routed through the center of the axis of rotation. An example use case would be a turret on a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) robot.

Two sizes are included - one where the cable opening is roughly 0.625 inches by 0.625 inches. and one where the opening is roughly 1 inch by 1 inch. The size used in the GIF above are the 0.625 inch links.

Printing

The design was created to be printable on an FDM printer standing up. Minor bridging is required and overhangs are 45 degrees. Bed adhesion is paramount as the surface area on the bed is very small.

I recommend using PETG or ABS for strength, but I have had decent results in PLA. Caution - stringing or blobs at the top of the part can ruin the tolerances needed for smooth operation. You may need to dial in some settings!
