Formbot sensor-filament outside bracket

*Update 02/02/2025  PC4-M10 added

Hello,

Recently my sensor housing broke for some unknown reason, possibly hitting a part of the printer. So and as I had been thinking about it for a while, I made a new support to take the sensor out of the printer, so as to no longer have this annoying growth above my tool head.

I first saw this model https://www.printables.com/fr/model/693574-formbot-filament-sensor-outside-holder , but as I had to reprint the main part and also wanted to hide the wire and connector to improve the overall appearance, I designed a new one.

The BOM

You need:
  • The old parts of the formbot sensor: board, bearing, 4 screws.
  • 2 x EACS04 ( maybe you can recover one on the old sensor).
  • 1 x M3 heat set insert
  • 2 x M3x8 SHCS screw
  • 1 x M3 Hammerhead Nut
  • Approximately 25gr of filament

Printing recommendations

  • Preferably in Abs or Asa
  • Keep the Stl file orientation
  • Layer height 0.2 mm
  • Infill 40% (cubic for me)
  • Support are mandatory for EACS hole on the plate side and for the wire cover.

Printing takes approximately 1h15

Build

  • Use a 2 mm drill bit for cleaning the passage of the filament.
  • Insert the bearing.
  • Insert the switch board and screw it on the bracket.
  • Put the M3 heat set insert in it's location.
  • Insert the EACS04 in the emplacements( press it with a pliers if needed).
  • Fix on the printer with a M3x8 and a M3 Hammerhead Nut
  • Clips gently the lid into the pivot holes.
  • Connect and pass the wires inside the cover.
  • Close the lid and screw it with a M3x8 and your done !

Extra infos:

To extend the wires, the crimp pins are reference 70058 for Molex SL type connector.
