I needed an inline filament runout sensor that I could stick inline between Bowden tubes on either end, but I wanted it to be as small as possible and require very few parts. I also wanted to only have to print a single part, and I wanted it to print without supports.
I took inspiration from the ball bearing + micro switch style runout sensor that my Voron Clockwork 2 extruder has for my ERCF equipped printer. I have found that works well for my Stealthburner so I figured I could design a tiny stand alone version. To keep the size as minimal as possible it utilizes push fit ECAS04 fittings.
Build of Materials:
- 1x 5.5mm ball bearing
- 1x SPDT 3 pin micro switch, 12.6×6.5×5.7mm (switch I used) (remove metal lever)
- 2x ECAS04 fittings (fittings I used) (remove the end rubber part, see picture)
- 2x M2x12mm socket head cap screws
- Wire and connector (this will ultimately depend on your build requirements and controller board)
I printed this out of ASA and using Voron spec print settings.
I used Tinkercad to come up with this design so I don't have a step file unfortunately, but I wanted to at least share the STL. Happy printing!
