Hi all,
This is my first ever model, and I had to learn Fusion 360 to create it….. so be kind, there's bound to be mistakes, but it works.
As an 80s child, and fan of all things 80s and retro, I wanted to try to recreate a Retrowave Sun and turn it into a lamp. Also heavily inspired by one of my favourite bands, Gunship.
There are 4 parts:
- Back - The main body of light
- Front Caps - The front of the light that the LED light shines through
- Backplate - A backplate to cover the back of the light
- Stand - An optional desk stand to hold the light and conceal the electronics
I used the following to print:
- Back - ESun Matte Black PLA+
- Front Caps - ESun Standard White PLA
- Backplate - ESun Matte Black PLA+
- Stand - ESun Matte Black PLA+
Printed on a Creality Ender 3 V3 with the standard built-in 0.20mm Creality Print settings
Notes:
- I put a drop of plastic glue on the white front caps to hold them in place
- I secured the backplate with a bit of velcro for now, but there's probably a much more elegant option out there
Other parts used:
- 144 LED p/s LED Strip (for best results use 144 LED per metre. I started with a lot less, and it didn't work well)
- ESP8266 Mini (for controlling the LEDs wia WLED)
The photos don't really do it justice, but I think it's pretty cool.
Feel free to let me know what you think, as I said this is my first ever model, so there's a lot of learning to be done (the stand could be a lot better, for sure).
