Dishwasher Dirty/Clean Automatic Sign

Magnetic flip sign for a dishwasher to show if clean or dirty dishes are inside.

(v3 at end of file name) files. This has the sign printing vertical on one of the edges and will need zero support material. Also the hanger is now double cammed to allow for TRULY automated movement of the sign (this may not be everyone's preference).

INSTRUCTIONS:

Print-In-Place - layer height 0.2mm (or less). Print flat side down and enjoy. Only takes 1hr45min. Standard files - layer height 0.2mm (or less). Share the build plate or print 1 after the other. Text should be printed vertically. Snap in place.

Magnets are 9.4mmx1.9mm.Holes are 9.7mmx1.8mm (glue needed.) (third magnet may not be necessary to hold it securely but i have kids so thought extra holding power would be good.)

If you'd like to print each piece separately or with color use the standard V2 files.

COMPATIBILITY:

v1 andv2 are backwards and forwards compatible. Print-In-Place is a different design and is not compatible with other designs (Also you are unable to separate PIP file for a snap fit, Not sure why you would want this anyway)

If you print using larger than 0.2mm layer height it may have print inconsistences (visual defects) but should still functiion. V1 requires support for text. V2 and PIP does not require support.

How I Designed This

I feel like a lot of new designers entry point is 3D printing so maybe this will be of help to you. This "backroom" side of designing is never really shown outside a place of work.

Iterations and redesigns are completely normal - but a way to avoid that is to start with your design concept entirely on paper. For my v3 dishwasher flip I had to do it on paper as i didn't know the solution to my problem. I needed the sign to return 180 degrees to normal after being tilted by 90 degrees, for someone who doesn't usually work with cam action this was really tricky. I finished my design loaded it to Thingiverse and printed it. I found out immediately it didn't work my tolerances were too tight (used 0.2mm gap around the moving parts whereas my most recent design of PIP uses 0.5-0.7mm tolerance) and the action of flipping by itself didn't work either. I thought I could adjust it quickly and print again but after careful thought; I needed a full redesign.

I'm actually still working on it but I have a solution on paper, with the cam shape being a triangle instead of an angled pill/slot shape.

No support required. Should print text perfectly. Chamfer added to slot on moving part allowing for this orientation.

Do not use these to print in place. These files are for a snap fit and cleaner text (print the text vertically as shown below.
