This pen‑plotter adapter is ideal for precise line‑based marking and decorative work on flat surfaces.

Perfect for:

  • Keycap marking Draw icons, symbols, or text directly onto custom keycaps with consistent line thickness.

  • Front‑panel labels Add clear labels, arrows, or indicators to enclosures, control panels, or workshop tools.

  • SVG icon plotting Plot any vector icon set with crisp, uniform lines.

  • Prototype marking Add notes, alignment marks, or reference lines to parts without engraving or printing.

  • PCB or electronics labeling Mark connectors, pinouts, or orientation indicators on non‑conductive surfaces.

  • Fine line art Create small illustrations, logos, or decorative patterns with high repeatability.

This custom toolhead adapter allows the Makera to operate as a precise pen plotter using a fixed Z‑offset. It is designed for pens with the following dimensions:

  • 1.3 mm tip

  • 5 mm body diameter

  • 8 mm outer sleeve diameter

The adapter mounts using a 6 mm collet, ensuring a centered and stable hold. With Makera’s excellent Z‑repeatability, the pen can be used with a very shallow 0.1 mm DOC, producing crisp, consistent lines without excessive pressure.

Makera CAM Notes (G‑code cleanup required)

Makera CAM does not support a true “no‑spindle” tool type, so the generated G‑code will always include spindle commands. For pen plotting, these commands must be removed manually.

Required adjustments:

  • Makera CAM does not allow a spindle speed of 0

    • Set spindle speed to 1 when generating the toolpath

    • (CAM refuses 0 RPM)

  • After exporting the G‑code:

    • Remove all M3 commands (spindle ON)

    • Remove all M5 / M05 commands (spindle OFF)

    • Optionally remove any S### spindle‑speed lines

This ensures the Makera performs clean, pressure‑controlled pen plotting using your fixed Z‑offset and 0.1 mm DOC.

Print Settings (recommended)

For best rigidity and dimensional accuracy, this adapter should be printed at 100% infill. The part is small, narrow, and clamps the pen using a 6 mm collet, so a fully solid print ensures:

  • no flex in the clamp section

  • consistent Z‑offset behavior

  • stable pen pressure at 0.1 mm DOC

  • no deformation when tightening the collet

  • maximum repeatability during plotting

Layer height: 0.2 mm Walls/perimeters: 3–4 Infill: 100% (required)
