A precise structural frame remix for the popular DIY Open Source SpaceMouse project.

Components Used:

  • Joystick Modules: Standard thumb joysticks used for this build can be sourced directly on AliExpress (Dimensions: 34mm x 30mm x 27mm).

  • Hardware: Screw holes for the joysticks have been enlarged to a 3.5mm diameter to cleanly accommodate standard M3 heat-set threaded inserts.

Design Enhancements & Updates (v1.1):

  • Depth Fix (Highly Recommended): Following initial user reports of printing artifacts on the first version, v1.1 has been uploaded. This version reduces the joystick hole pocket depths from 4mm down to 3.5mm deep to eliminate external surface blemishes and reinforce rigidity. Please ensure you print the v1.1 files!

Assembly Tip (Sideways Heat Inserts in Tight Spaces):
Installing threaded brass inserts into tight internal vertical walls can be tricky with a standard soldering iron tip. To do this cleanly: thread a small spacer or nut onto a long bolt, follow it with your M3 insert at the very tip, and use the assembly to guide and push the insert straight into the plastic wall pocket via heat convection. It takes a little longer to heat up, but prevents accidental melting of surrounding walls!
