Overview
Enhance your flight simulation experience with this highly detailed ATR72 Index Control Panel (ICP) replica. This meticulously designed controller brings authentic turboprop cockpit feel to your home setup with full functionality for X-Plane, Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS), and other compatible flight simulation software.
Key Features
- 12 Programmable Inputs: 3 rotary encoders and 6 switches fully mapped to aircraft functions
- Plug & Play Compatibility: Works seamlessly with major flight simulators without complex configuration
- Dual Mounting Options:
- Desktop box mode for flexible positioning
- Wall-mount mode with quick-detach dovetail system for permanent installations
- Authentic Design: Faithfully recreates the ATR72 ICP with accurate labeling including SPD TGT, AUTO/MAN, SEL, BARO SET, PUSH STD, DH/MDA functions
- Customizable Electronics: Compatible with Lolin Mini ESP32S2 or similar-sized microcontrollers
What the ICP does
According to ATR's AFCS training material:
Interfacing with autoflight speed targets: The ICP lets the crew interact with the autoflight speed
targets.
Speed reference selection:
A SEL pushbutton toggles the speed bug source between MANUAL (Air Data Computer reference)
and AUTOMATIC (FMS reference).
The SPD TGT rotary knob adjusts the IAS speed bug when in MANUAL.
Decision Height (DH) and Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) selection:
Each pilot uses the outer "DH/MDA" knob on their ICP to select and change the DH or MDA value.
The inner knob changes the numeric value. The selected DH is shown on the PFD lower-left, and
when the aircraft reaches DH, an aural "DECISION HEIGHT" alert and an amber "DH" annunciation
are triggered (with an "APPROACHING DECISION HEIGHT" alert at DH +100 ft).
MDA selected via ICP is displayed on the PFD lower-right with an altitude-tape bug and
"APPROACHING MINIMUM"/"MINIMUMS, MINIMUMS" aural alerts near MDA.
Integration with IAS hold and TCS:
When IAS hold is engaged via the FGCP, the airspeed reference can be changed using the ICP's
rotary selector.
After a Touch Control Steering (TCS) maneuver, the new airspeed reference can also be adjusted
with the ICP.
Perfect For
- Flight simulation enthusiasts seeking authentic turboprop experience
- Home cockpit builders looking for realistic ATR72 components
- Streamers wanting professional-looking controller setups
- Those transitioning from basic flight controls to more immersive interfaces
3D printing settings
Assembly Requirements
- MCU board (Lolin Mini ESP32S2 preferred or any same-size alternative)
- 3 rotary encoders
- 1 SPST rocker switch
- 1 SPST momentary button (8x8mm recommended)
- Hardware: (4) M5x5-10mm screws, (2) M3x5mm screws for detent, (6) M3x4mm+ screws for rotary encoders
Printing Specifications
- Make sure the case is split from the dovetail joint by separating the parts using ur slicer tools
- Technology: FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling)
- Recommended Materials:
- PLA for ease of printing and good detail
- PETG for improved durability and temperature resistance
- ABS/ASA for maximum strength (requires enclosure)
- Resolution: 0.2mm layer height for balance between detail and print time
- Infill: 20-30% for structural parts, 10-15% for cosmetic covers
- Supports: Required for overhangs and internal features
- Print Time: Approximately 6-10 hours depending on settings
Assembly Instructions
1. Print all components with recommended settings
2. Install rotary encoders using M3 screws
3. Mount the detent mechanism with M3x5mm screws
4. Attach the momentary button and rocker switch
5. Install the MCU board (ESP32S2 recommended)
6. Connect all electronic components according to wiring diagram
7. Flash the provided firmware to the MCU
8. Assemble the case halves using M5 screws
9. For wall mounting: install the dovetail bracket first, then slide the panel into place
