I tried sticking a paper with my number in ink & it evaporates in time - therefore this idea! Better than getting towed!

Printing Instructions

Picking The Right Model

You need to choose the thickness of the dashboard number plate (0.5 or 1cm) and then the number blocks corresponding to that thickness (0.3cm numbers for the 0.5cm dashboard plate / 0.5cm numbers for the 1cm dashboard plate)

Plates models are from 3-20 slots for numbers/symbols, get creative!

Not sure if the size is right for your dashboard? Print the sample version to check with minimal material cost!

General Settings

Supports Required: No

MMU Required: No, use Prusaslicer to change filament when it starts printing the number on the number block

Print Material: PLA (Cool Climate) / PETG, ABS or ASA (Hot Climate)

Nozzle: 0.4mm

Layer Height: 0.2mm

Printing Scales

Print Scale (Dashboard) → 100% (Tested On PLA) (Scale as you might prefer). If the model is too large for your printer, you can split the print. Prusaslicer lets you create multiple parts with pieces to attach them back together.

Print Scale (Number Blocks) → 98% (Tested On PLA) (Scale as you might prefer - 2% less than Dashboard Scale).

Important Note: All materials are different, and although 98% is a safe amount to shrink the number blocks to fit them in the slots without altering the appearance too much, if they are still too large - proceed to shrink them to 96.5% instead. I would recommend to print one first to see it's behaviour.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Apply hot glue gun or superglue into the dashboard slots and place the number blocks into them (Whilst not the ideal glue type, strong adhesion is not required for this model).
  2. Apply double sided tape to the back of the dashboard plate and stick it to your dashboard!

Tip: If you feel like your double sided tape is too strong and might damage the dashboard, you may wish to apply masking tape on the dashboard and then stick double sided tape on top of it instead (this is what I did).

Enjoy!
